In place of the defunct Vintage Festival, Little Jack Horner's will be selling sausage rolls outside West London's Westfield Shopping Centre next week, Thursday-Sunday 10am-6pm. Right by Shepherds Bush Tube Station. Pop by and say hello!
I will also have a stall at Parliament Hill Farmers market on the Saturday, and Parsons Green on the Sunday - check the LFM website for location details:

Vintage Festival Cancelled!
It's true - it has. Quoting lack of sales as the main reason for its demise, yet also including 'weather' as another, which is baffling as it's two weeks away....
So if there is an event near you that needs a sausage rolls stall over the weekend of the 14th/15th July, please get in touch!
Here's the article that can explain more:

Leaving the Farmers Markets for the summer
With all of this Music and Food Festival activity being booked up over the summer months, I thought I should let everyone know with some advance notice that Little Jack Horner's will not be frequenting any farmers markets for the last 3 weekends of July and the whole of August.
The markets are quiet over this time of year anyway, everyones on holiday or away for the weekend, the Olympics will turn London into a gridlocked lunatic asylum... so time to escape to the country!
At least, this is how I hope the weather will be.
So to be concrete about the dates: The last markets of the summer will be on the 7th/8th July, and we'll be returning on the 1st/2nd of September.

Vintage Festival and Wilderness Festival
Okay, it's official - Little Jack Horner's will be selling hot sausage rolls at the Wilderness Festival and also the Vintage Festival this year. Maybe it might be a clincher or... well... maybe not, but they both look like excellent festivals to me anyway, so have a look and consider coming along.

'Pasty Tax' petition!
Hello, I know it's a bit of a bore but can I ask you to sign a petition against the 20% VAT Tax on hot pastry goods that has been proposed by George Osbourne? It's a actually quite a serious matter when you take in how many people it'll effect (Conservatives - party of small business? hmm...). If you're unaware of the details here's a short news article by the BBC which concisely explains all the issues that i'd like to rant about:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17851992
and here's a link to the petition. Cheers.

2012 Market Dates!
Hello!
Hope all the Christmas mayhem is coming to a close for all of you, and you're beginning to settle into the familiar ritual of hazy overeating and cold winter walks. A note for your diaries - my market dates are going to be far simpler as of the New Year. With the emphasis on regularity and tin returns, I think it is important that I do less markets more regularly. So as of the beginning of January there will be a stall at the following markets:
Parliament Hill - Every Saturday
Pimlico - 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month
Balham - 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of the month
Parsons Green - Every Sunday
Marylebone - Every Sunday
See you in the New Year!
James

Banging a drum for Squirrels and Hares
Hello all,
Really pleased to see that that the new markets have been so well frequented - many thanks to the people of Balham and Parsons Green for their support, and also for their appreciation of the pies and the jumbo sausage rolls!
I'm very into Game at the moment. I'm trying not to let it take over the selection of recipes I have available at the markets, but I'm finding it difficult. There's something about the direct relationship with a wild/semi-wild animal and your plate/pie-tin that really resonates with me, there's less interference and middlemen involved. I do think that these days as a society we're too dislocated from the natural world, and far too sniffy about trying new things. It'll be interesting to see the faces of some the regulars when I present them with a Squirrel pie. It'll only be on occasionally as there's only so many that you can catch in a week. I do hope people are open minded about trying it. Hare too. We'll see! There's also a lovely new vegetarian recipe which I strongly recommend, and a beautiful vension recipe. Hope you enjoy them.
Current Recipes:
Slow Cooked Hare with Carrots, Leeks, Celery, Juniper and Cloves
Venison, Roast Shallot and Mushroom
Squirrel, Beer, Prunes and Pearl Barley
Chicken, Bacon, Leek, Split Pea and Rosemary
Crown Prince Pumpkin, Spinach, Cream and Garlic
See you at market!

New Recipe! Rabbit, Bacon, Pea and Mint
That's right!
..and it's very tasty too. Everyone should eat more rabbit - wild rabbit that is, as opposed to the blander farmed animals. Why farm animals that are so abundant? Apparently rabbits eat more grass in the UK than sheep do. Time to alter that statistic.
So the current recipes you can purchase at the market are:
Rabbit, Bacon, Pea and Mint
Chuck Steak and Ale, Mushroom and Carrot
Smoked Gammon, Honey Roast Parsnip and Parsley
Oxford Blue, Broccoli and Caramelised Onion
Hope you like it...

Little Jack Horner's returns, new markets added!
Hello again! So Little Jack Horner's is back and up and running.
The new kitchen unit is almost complete now, a few more additions and it'll be ready to churn out lots of lovely pies...
I've been meeting a few interesting suppliers through August, so expect some alluring new game-related recipes to appear over the next few weeks. I'll be reintroducing a few old classics for this weekend, before then gradually phasing these new recipes in next week and beyond.
The prices of the pies have changed. The price of the tins has increased, so when you return the tins, you will receive more money than when you returned them before August. Now the 'single tins' will be worth £1.50, 'double tins' will be worth £2. and 'family tins' will be worth £3. This is because people like the tins so much they tend to keep hold of them, so this is to add extra incentive to recycle! This also means therefore, that the price of the pies when you buy them has increased to £6.50, £9.95 ad £20.95 respectively. This is simply factoring in the extra cost of the tins - so if you return them, the pies work out at the same price as before.
There are two brand new markets we'll be attending!
From the 17th Sept I'll be selling at Balham Farmers Market on a WEEKLY basis, 9am-2pm, every Saturday. See the website for more details: http://www.lfm.org.uk/markets/balham/
From the 25th August I'll be selling at Parsons Green Farmers Market on a WEEKLY basis, 10am-2pm, every Sunday. See the website for more details: http://www.lfm.org.uk/markets/parsons-green/
So September's Markets read as follows:
Saturday 10th: Pimlico
Sunday 11th: Queens Park
Saturday 17th: Parliament Hill and Balham
Sunday 18th: Marylebone
Saturday 24th: Pimlico and Balham
Sunday 25th: Queens Park and Parsons Green

Little Jack Horner's expansion plans...
Hello all,
It's been great fun, hard work and a learning experience getting Little Jack Horner's off the ground over the past 18 months - it's fantastic to see the interest these pies have generated. So thanks to all of you who have been down to visit and bought them. It's about the right time to move the business on a little now, so in early August I'll be leaving my current premises and moving into a larger industrial catering unit. This means more pies can be produced and more markets can be attended, as well as a few new faces appearing at Little Jack Horner's!
What this means as far as you're concerned is that firstly, we'll be closed over August. As much as I love pies, even the greediest enthusiast needs a break - so I'll be off for the first couple of weeks. After that it means kitting out a kitchen, and dealing with a lot of red tape and bureaucracy and all the other stuff I didn't anticipate happening. So in light of all of this, we should be open in the second week of September. Watch this space for further updates, and don't forget to pop down to the market to stock up over these last weeks in July!

Pies for Pubs!
Hello all,
Come September, Little Jack Horner's will be progressing into selling pies wholesale to pubs. This could be to pubs already selling food, but in particular to pubs that do not have an established kitchen, but would like to provide simple hot food for the lunchtime and evening market. If you know of a pub company/landlord/manager who might be interested in such developments, please ask them to get in touch!
Thanks!
James

New Swede, Apple, Greens Cheddar and Mustard Pie!
Hello!
There is a new pie to be found at the markets as of this weekend - a vegetarian pie that I'm convinced you'll love, vegetarian or not!
It composes of thinly sliced Swede and Gala Apple with a delicious Green's Cheddar, Apple Cider Vinegar and Wholegrain Mustard sauce with loads of fresh herbs. I'll have it as a taster in the stall so please come and try it. It will be taking the place of the other vegetarian pie, Oxford Blue Cheese, Caramelised Onion and Broccoli pie, which although is popular, is sort of out of season for the spring I think, although I will have one or two of them at the stalls if you're keen to snap one up before they go....
So the current crop of recipes are as follows:
1. Chuck Steak, Light Ale, Carrot and Mushroom
2. Smoked Gammon, Spiced Apple and Honey Roast Parsnip
3. Chicken, Bacon, Split Pea and Rosemary
4. Swede, Apple, Green's Cheddar and Mustard (v)
See you soon.

New Chicken, Bacon, Split Pea and Rosemary Pie
Hello everyone -
The pheasant season is over which means the end of pheasant pies at market, it's a little sad considering they were such a tremendous success over the winter period. Never mind, they'll return later on in the year...
In the meantime, a new Chicken, Bacon, Split Pea and Rosemary Pie is to make its appearance on Saturday, which I hope will be well received! It's a lovely recipe.
See you soon

January Market Dates
Happy New Year!
I hope you've had a really relaxing and enjoyable time. I just want to say a particularly big thanks to those of you who came to market over the arctic conditions in December - especially the snow blizzard at Parliament Hill on the 18th! It really meant a lot to all of the stall-holders to see such a good turn-out during such miserable weather. though we counted ourselves lucky compared to those in other frozen parts of the country! So the markets start again this coming weekend - hope to see you there. There'll be new recipes towards the end of the month, so keep a lookout! Here are the dates:

New Pheasant Recipe
Hello -
So there's a new festive recipe that'll be available as of this Saturday which I hope you'll enjoy -
Pheasant, Butternut Squash, Sage and Walnut.
This will be taking the place of the Chicken, Lemon, Red Onion and New Potato recipe - time for a change I think!
Naturally it'll be available in single, double and family size tins - bear this in mind when placing orders for Christmas!
This means that the current pie recipe selection is as follows:
1. Chuck Steak, Light Ale, Carrot and Mushroom
2. Smoked Gammon, Spiced Apple and Honey Roast Parsnip
3. Pheasant, Butternut Squash, Sage and Walnut
4. Oxford Blue, Caramelised Onion and Broccoli (v)

December Market Dates
Hello,
Time seems to be passing very quickly at the moment - it's hard to believe that December is almost upon us! The markets are particularly nice at this time of year as people gradually build up towards Christmas, so if you haven't visited the markets recently then I'd recommend you pop down around now - you'll also get much better quality, locally produced and cheaper meat and veg than at any supermarket! You'd be surprised at how many potential Chistmas gifts are available also...
Pies are clearly popular now too, so please get in touch over the Christmas period so I can reserve/home deliver what you need in order to avoid disappointment - just an email or phone call will do. I'll be delivering right up until Christmas Eve. Please take note of the special midweek Christmas markets below, on the 22nd and 23rd Dec. There are no markets running between Christmas and New Year, so post-Christmas I wont be at market until January 8th, although WILL be available for frozen pie delivery - dependant on stock, just give me a call.
Finally, there'll be a special new Christmas recipe introduced over the next week or two - but more on that later!
James

Summer Pudding
Hello!
For the final three weekends I'm trading this summer before I go on my break, I thought it would be nice to make a much-loved family favourite pudding to sell alongside the pies. So Summer Pudding will be making a fleeting and welcome appearance at the markets as of Saturday. They will be sold in the individual 'single' size pie tins, so should be considered to be either a large single portion or two small portions.
The Summer Puddings will be taking the place of the Minced Beef and Onion pies, which although have been thoroughly well received over the past 5 months, are due a rest. I'm sure that the recipe will make an appearance in the future at some stage....
So the recipes for the final 3 weeks are as follows:
1. Braised Lamb Shanks with Orange, Ginger, Haricot Beans and Parsley
2. Griddled Aubergine and Courgette with Toasted Pinenuts, Fresh Goats Cheese and Roast Cherry Tomato
3. Roast Chicken with Wholegrain Mustard, Garlic, Lemon, Red Onion and Maris Peers
4. Summer Pudding
Hope to see you at market!

August/September Market Dates
Hello -
So the summer is fully upon us. The kids have broken up from school and people are leaving London for their holidays - the markets are definitely quieter... so particular thanks to those people who come to the markets over July and August - it's a rich bonanza of pickings for those that do! The summer berries are being snapped up as well as the best cherries you're ever likely to try.
I'll be spending some time away from the markets over the end of August and the beginning of September - I'm off on my own annual break, reconnecting with neglected family and friends whilst also looking into progressing the business further next year. I'll be freezing a load of family size pies over that period so if anyone has any emergencies I will be able to deliver whilst stocks last. My recommendation is to buy extra when at market!
The recipes will have changed to the suit the autumn months by the time I return to market, so keep an eye out! Regulars will be happy to hear that the Spiced Gammon with Apple Juice and Honey Roast Parsnip recipe will be back...

July Market Dates
Hello -
It's great to see people are still very much into potted pies even though it is now very much summer! The new recipes seem to be being very well received, all the feedback is very welcome. I can reassure those that are disgruntled as to the whereabouts of the Gammon, Apple and Parsnip recipe - it will be back on in the autumn!
I'm sorry to say the second week of July I will not be at market. I have some very important engagements to attend to which require the use of the van. I am able to provide home deliveries to people living in Pimlico/Queens Park on the first weekend of July (3rd and 4th) and the third weekend (17th and 18th) if necessary, so please get in touch if so. Apologies!
Here are the Market Dates
